Church serves community since 1950s

A band of pioneers and parishioners led by a French missionary priest, dedicated days of their lives serving more than a thousand poor Catholics and Jalan Kayu residents in the early 1960s when the area was still dotted with pig and poultry farms. On Saturday, the Catholic Church Saint Vincent de Paul will celebrate its roots at its 50th anniversary celebrations. ST speaks to members and the parish priest about the church's role in the community and how it has evolved.
